Where do you get the information to generate these templates?

In addition to the information you provide, we retrieve information directly from the USPTO via their publicly available API located here: USPTO PEDS API.

We send a request to the USPTO for information about the patent application you identify. We then receive information about that patent application from the USPTO and populate the template using that information.

What types of documents can PatDox generate?

Presently, PatDox generates documents for responding to USPTO Office actions. Specifically, it can generate responses to non-final and final Office actions and responses to Restriction/Species Requirements. These responses may or may not include amendments.

Future developments will include other types of documents.

What is the difference between Simple and Detailed workflows?

The Simple workflow creates a bare bones template, but requires very little information from you. Quick and dirty!

The Detailed workflow creates a much more complete template, including specific prior art details, among other items. It takes a little more time, but it's well worth it!

Can I customize the terminology of the template?

Presently, we offer one document for responding to substantive Office actions and one document for responding to Restriction/Species Requirements. The terminology in these documents cannot be customized or changed via PatDox. We do offer the ability to choose font type, font size, and filename of those documents.

In the future, we plan to offer customized templates that incorporate a user's own preferred terminology.

What is the difference between Basic and Premium memberships?

Is your payment processing secure?

Of course. Payments are processed by Stripe, a well-established online payment processing company that uses the strongest security measures to protect your payment data.

Can I cancel my membership?

I'm not sure why you'd want to cancel, but of course you can. You can cancel your membership at any time using the Dashboard. Your membership will be canceled and not renewed at period end.

Do you offer a membership plan for multiple attorneys at my firm/company?

Presently, we only offer individual memberships that allow one attorney/agent to use the account.

In the future, we plan to offer multi-user memberships that would apply to groups such as law firms and corporate teams.

Why did you create this website?

PatDox started as a proof of concept and evolved into this website. I made it for myself, but later realized that others might find it helpful too.

The idea behind PatDox started several years ago because I was trying to save myself some time when responding to Office actions. When the USPTO published their APIs (i.e., mechanisms to retrieve public patent data), the functionality really expanded. I gradually added more features and now here we are.

What did you use to create this website?

A variety of open source code was incorporated in this project. Here is a list of them: HTML5Up, Docxtemplater, MemberStack, Pikaday, IntroJS, Moment, Tingle, FileSaver, JSZIP, EmailJS, Tippy, LoadingOverlay, AccordionJS, Lity, DataTables.
